"I am angry that so many of the powerful and well placed managed to wangle slots in Guard and Reserve units. Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to their country."

General Colin L. Powell
From his autobiography "My American Journey"
p. 148

No wonder Powell isn't on the "A" Team with the rest of Junior's Draft Dodging, Chickenhawk, neocon Cabinet and staff.

Semper Fi,

Lt. Dan

Hey Lt. Dan,

I remember reading that. My impression of Powell is that he is the voice of reason and moderation in this Admin and I think he does it out of what he thinks is right.

I think over time they are paying more and more attention to him. I definitely ain't a big fan of this admin but am thankful that Powell is there.

As far as your point on the chickenhawks, Bush (the self-proclaimed "war president"), Cheney ("I had other priorities"), Wolfowitz, et. al), I totally agree with ya.

And by the way, I was remiss in an earlier post - thank you for your sacrifice.

Semper fi,

Things sure have changed in thirty years. We have an ALL voluntary armed forces now. The soldiers come back after they have fought in Desert Storm and the recent war on terrorism and don't omplain much. I guess its better to be a hero by choice than a hero by force.

Wil and Lt. Dan don't get me wrong, I feel the Vietnam War broke the back of communism and being a staunch capitalist, I don't think you need me say thank you for that. It was by far the worse war plan the US have ever put forth even though the US never officially declared war. We were at war with communism, and communism was moving forward like a run away train. Bin laden was supported by the US why? We've broke the back of communism and now were at war with terrorism. Obviously communism is still around and I said break the back of, not rip the brains out of it.

Now, lets talk about the present. Soldiers now voluntarily become soldiers.
If I were to pick a team to go to war I wouldn't want to go the the high school gym and have all the boys pull straws and get the ones who drew the short straw. Would you not want to find out who WANTED to serve and have them step forward. See if the had the skills to do the job and then give them the best tools to get the job done.

Things have changed in 30 years. Over 80 percent of military personnel vote republican now. They don't blame American first. They don't protest. They come back from the Middle East and are proud to have serve. You'll always find the exception to the rule. I guess the protesting and bashing Bush job is best left to the hollywood liberals as well as other liberals.

I'm sure of the fact that we'll never see a draft again.

Mud (love that name) and Lander,

I respect you guys and all men who are not liars, hypocrits or thiefs regardless of their Military service. Lander speaks the truth and will take a lot of flack from the wannabes of the world. Hang in there.

Mud, Semper Fi, my younger brother. I am cetainly proud of you! I was a series officer at Geiger many moons ago. I was actually discharged as an O-3 but always liked being a Lt. like the President.

Semper Fi,

Lt. Dan
